How to auto refresh reports in Power BI Desktop

Hi Community Members,

As I am new to Power BI, I have a requirement to auto-refresh the Power BI Desktop reports and I am not much aware of it. All the report data are retrieved from a SharePoint Folder (where I have used the SharePoint Folder connector).

I need to refresh the BI report daily when the updated files are uploaded into the SharePoint folder (with the same name). The results are appearing correctly when I refresh the BI report manually. But every time it's not possible to refresh the report manually. For this, I need to refresh the report daily (and that should be automatic) when I upload the files into the SharePoint folder.

As I researched in some BI documents, it suggests that the Automatic page refresh is available for DirectQuery sources and it does not support in the Import mode. Can anyone suggest me any alternatives for this requirement that how I can refresh the Desktop report automatically? Thanks in Advance!!

Recommend using PowerAutomate to have your published report dataset refresh when a file change is detected in your sharepoint folder.

Would suggest using the "When an Item is Created or Modified in SharePoint folder" trigger in PowerAutomate, then review https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/refresh-your-power-bi-dataset-using-microsoft-flow/ for info on how to configure your BI dataset to refresh.

(Microsoft Flow has since been renamed to PowerAutomate but the instructions should be the same)

Hi @AlexanderPrime

Thanks for your reply. I used the "When a file is created or modified in a folder" trigger in Power Automate (Cause as per my requirement, when I will upload a file in the SharePoint folder, then the BI report will refresh automatically). This flow works fine for me when I upload a single file into the SharePoint folder.

But when I uploaded multiple files at a time into the SharePoint folder, the flow gave me an error:

"Invalid dataset refresh request. another refresh request is already executing". I think the error comes because of using this trigger: When a file is created or modified in a folder. The flow will work only when I will upload a single file into the SP folder.

But I need to upload multiple files at a single instance into the SP folder. Can you suggest any solution for this? It's really urgent and it will be very helpful if you can help me. Thanks!!
