How to Make a Calendar Visual Automatically Respond to Month and Year Slicers in Power BI?

I’m using the Calendar Visual by MAQ Software in Power BI, but it doesn’t automatically update when I apply slicers for Year and Month. I would like the calendar to dynamically reflect the selected month and year from the slicers — so that when I select a specific month, the calendar view updates accordingly to show that month’s layout and events.

Is there a way to achieve this functionality? If not with the MAQ Calendar Visual, could you suggest a similar calendar visual that supports dynamic filtering through slicers?

@SanchirErdene ,

Thank you for reaching out with your query regarding dynamic filtering in Power BI's Calendar Visual by MAQ Software. As you have noticed, the visual does not automatically update based on Year and Month slicers.

To achieve the functionality you are looking for, the Custom Calendar by Akvelon supports dynamic filtering through slicers.

I have attached the PBIX file here for your reference:

Hi @SanchirErdene

Based on testing, while the contents in the calendar respond to the slicer selection, the period selected itself doesn't so it shows blank events if there's a mismatch between a date slicer seleciton and the period in the custom visual. As this is a custom visual, I would suggest to reach out to MAQ Software.

Hi SanchirErdene,

I am not sure, how Calendar visual by MAQ software works.
Instead of that, can you try workarounds or alternatives by using Bookmarks or Sync Slicers? You can try using bookmarks or sync slicers with multiple calendar visuals filtered to specific months, but this is not scalable or dynamic.

  • Add the Calendar by Vizualytics to your Power BI report.

  • Create slicers for:

    • Year (Year column from your date table)

    • Month (Month column or MonthName)

  • Bind the Date field in the visual to your date column.

  • Apply filters or let slicers drive the visual – the calendar will re-render accordingly to show the selected month's layout.
