How to Export Data into Excel with app.powerbi.com

Hello Community,

Each time I select 'Analyze in Excel' I get the message 'Failed to open file in Excel ..... so the file has been dowloaded to your computer'.

My attempts to open the downloaded excel file fails.

I first get the error screen

Followed by the following error

Any thoughts on any other approaches to export the data in Power BI?

Thanks

@carlton7372 , Hope you are doing that after enable the content. Make sure excel is using same login as power bi.

You can try one more way, Go to the data tab-> use a source as Power BI dataset and try to create a pivot table. Make sure Excel is using the same login as Power BI. If this does not work, then you need to check the tenant setting and enable the XMLA end point.

Hi, @carlton7372

May I ask if you have resolved this issue? After testing, this feature works fine.

You can try to solve it according to @Ritaf1983 and @amitchandak methods. If you still have doubts, you can try the following steps to solve the problem.

1. Check Permissions: Make sure you have the required permissions to export the data. Sometimes, access restrictions may prevent a successful export. Make sure you have the appropriate permissions to perform this action.
2. Clear browser cache: Clear your browser cache and try again. Sometimes cached data can cause unexpected problems. Restart your browser and try the export again.
3. Alternative export method: Instead of using "Analyze in Excel", try the following alternative method:
Go to "app.powerbi.com" and select the report you want to export.
Click the three dot (ellipsis) button in the upper right corner of the selected visual object.
   Select Export Data.
Choose whether to download a CSV or XLSX file containing the visual data.

4. Checking Data Model Integrity: The error message you are receiving ("The HTTP server returned the following error: Access Denied") may be related to a problem with the underlying data model. Make sure your data model is set up correctly and that there are no problems. (You can change some data to test, if the other data can be exported normally, then the probability of your data model error is very high)
5. Review Firewall and Network Settings: Sometimes, network or firewall settings can interfere with data export. Verify that the network settings allow communication between Power BI and Excel.

Hi Yang,

Are you suggesting that you can export from Power BI desktop? I was under the impression, this could only be achieved from app.powerbi.com

Hi, @carlton7372

Power BI desktop only supports exporting to PDF or templates for the time being.

Thank you. This was the problem. The account used with Excel was different to that used with app.powerbi.com. That being said, I still couldn't analyze straight from app.powerbi.com. I had to download first and then open with Excel. But that is fine.

Thank you
