How to Create a Kanban-Style Board (To Do / In Progress / Done) in Power BI?

Hi everyone,

I’m trying to create a visual in Power BI that looks similar to an Azure DevOps board, where tasks are displayed under columns like To Do, In Progress, and Done with different details like assigned to, due date, etc.

Is there a way to build this kind of Kanban-style layout directly in Power BI, either using native visuals, custom visuals, or DAX-based measures?

Any suggestions, examples, or recommended visuals would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hi @AnkitaaMishra

I don't have a specific example but was simply trying to imagine what possible combination of visuals I could use but certainly this won't be easy.

Hi @AnkitaaMishra,

Just wanted to follow up and confirm that everything has been going well on this. Please let me know if there’s anything from our end.
Please feel free to reach out Microsoft fabric community forum.

Hi @v-sgandrathi , I think you have me confused with @AnkitaaMishra who raised the original issue.

HI @KevinChant
Apologies for the wrong mention earlier, I was referring to your post and mentioned you by mistake. Thanks for the notice! I’ve made the changes.

Thankyou.

I am sure you can do this from a visualization perspective, I think the more important question is why when you can use Kanban Boards in Azure DevOps and then visualize the data relating to it in Power BI using Analytics Views like in the below post?

Hi @AnkitaaMishra,

@danextian You’re correct, setting up a Kanban-style board like Azure DevOps in Power BI is challenging since there isn’t a built-in visual for that layout. While you can try to replicate it with the new Card visual, Tile slicer, or Matrix using SVG or image URLs, this approach can be complex and not very flexible.

If you want to display task status in a board format, it’s easier to use a custom Kanban visual from AppSource, such as Tasks Viewer – Kanban Chart or PowerGraph Task Board. These options let you organize tasks by columns like “To Do,” “In Progress,” and “Done,” including details such as assignee and due date, for a clearer result.

For more advanced customization, the Deneb visual is another option, allowing you to create your own Kanban layout with Vega-Lite specs.

For real-time interaction, such as dragging tasks between columns or editing details, embedding a Power Apps visual in Power BI is best. You can design a Power Apps canvas app for interactivity and integrate it with Power BI to manage tasks and view analytics together.

Hi @AnkitaaMishra,

Just looping back once to check if everything's good on your end. Let me know if you need any final support happy to assist if anything’s still open.

Thank you.

Hi @AnkitaaMishra,

As we did not get a response, may I know if the above reply could clarify your issue, or could you please help confirm if we may help you with anything else?
Your understanding and patience will be appreciated.

This would be a complex thing to do in Power BI. You're looking into using a combination of the new card visual/tile slicer visual/matrix SVGs and image urls.

Hi @danextian , thanks for your response, Would you be able to share any examples, references, or videos on how to achieve this? I tried using SVG, but I’m unable to get it to work correctly.
