How do I link to a file in OneDrive without changing my filepath?

I regularly use files stored in my OneDrive folder on one computer but find that, even when I sign in to OneDrive on my other computer, I get a message saying it couldn't find the filepath. I assume that has to do with the OneDrive folder being stored in a different location on the second machine, but I thought connecting it with OneDrive would bypass such restrictions since the files are stored in the cloud. Is there a separate, special process I need to adopt?
