I would like to create a report in powerbi that based on 1 simple xls. The xls located in my a shared folder, however it is password protected. I have the password, so that is not a problem.

However when I try to import I receive en error: unable to connect. We encountered an error while trying to connect

Hi @Anonymous ,

It seems that Power Bi desktop doesn't support to fetch data from password protected Excel file. Here is an idea you could click to vote it up.

As a workaround, you could remove passsword and instead, move the files to a secure folder that limited people have access to. Reference: power query accessing password protected workbook
