Hierarchy slicer with dynamic Role Level Security

Dear all,

I'm struggling to find the best way to use an organisational slicer with using dynamic Role Level Security (DRLS).

The hierarchy is made of 4 different columns in the fact table:

  • Column Organisation; Values: Whole organisation
  • Column Cardinal direction; Values: North, East, South or West
  • Column District; Values: District A, District B, District C, District ..
  • Column Shop; Values: Shop 1, Shop 2, Shop 3, Shop ..

The screenshot above shows the current slicer. Bases on DRLS someone can have one of the four roles:

  • Role 1: Organization (can see everything)
  • Role 2: Cardinal direction North, East, South or West (can see their direction with all its districts and shops)
  • Role 3: District (can see their district with all its shops)
  • Role 4: Shop (can only see their shop)

The problem I'm having right now is that someone with Role 4 (let's say Shop 1) can still see the other three roles in this slicer. I don't want people to know that there are higher levels of roles.

Another example is Role 3 (let's say District A). His/her slicer must only show District A, Shop 1 and Shop 2. Not other districts or higher levels.

Is there a way to deal with this? I have thought of using four different slicers, but I would prefer to only use one slicer.

Thank you in advance!

Martijm

  • "I don't want people to know that there are higher levels of roles."

That is extremely hard to implement and may not be worth the effort. What's the harm ?

  • The report will be rolled out nationally, so nobody should have the feeling that they miss out on data.
