Help with Matrix/Table layout in Power BI Desktop or Power BI REPORT BUILDER
- 1 year ago
Hi mshao
Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Forum Community.
I understand the challenge you're facing in building the desired table layout in Power BI Desktop and Power BI Report Builder. I’d like to offer some insights to help address the limitations you're encountering.
Power BI Desktop:
As I understand, in Power BI Desktop, calculated measures cannot be placed directly into the Rows or Columns of a Matrix or Table visual in the same way as calculated columns. This is because calculated measures are aggregate values used to summarize data, whereas calculated columns are treated as categorical fields. However, I can explore creating the visual in Power BI Report Builder, which offers more flexibility with its formatting and grouping options. Please follow below steps to overcome your issue.
Power BI Report Builder:
- Check Group Expressions:
Please right-click on the group in the row group pane and select Group Properties. Ensure that the grouping is based on the correct field, such as "Type" or "Period". This will ensure that the data is grouped as expected.
- Nested Grouping:
If the "Type" group is not appearing in the correct position, consider nesting it under a parent group (like "Group # and Name"). You can add a child group by right-clicking on the row and selecting Add Group → Child Group.
- Review Layout:
Make sure the layout of the table places the fields for "Period Amount" and "Accumulated Shares" correctly within the grouped rows. This will help ensure that the values are displayed according to the user-selected date.
- Date Slicer:
If applicable, please confirm that the Date slicer is functioning properly, so the user can select the desired period, and the table will reflect the corresponding data.
If these suggestions don't resolve the issue or if you encounter further difficulties, please feel free to provide additional details about your dataset or the specific challenges you’re facing. I would be happy to assist you further!
