Help on memory allocation error in Power BI desktop report

Respected Team,

Seek your guidance on Memory error receieved in powerbi desktop report.

Error message: Memory allocation failure, try simplyfying or reducing the number of queries.

Context: I am extracing data in Power BI report from 400 files folder (45gb) and for which created one sample file and then reapplied the same to the rest files in the folder. After some time (sometime immediate sometimes after couple of hours received memory error). I have connected with my IT folks and increased to 7000 (see below screenshot) but received some error message. Earlier when tries to increased it to 12 GB then my PC restarted. Initially it was on one drive but basis guidance from my IT folks kept the data folder on my local drive which is of 500gb size but still error exists.

Help required: can you please guide me how to work further as this is huge volume of data.

Can anyone guide on the above query

Hi @PrashantA ,
In the error message, you may need to increase the amount of memory available on the machine. You can refer to these documents to solve it.

If the problem is still not resolved, please provide detailed error information or the expected result you expect. Let me know immediately, looking forward to your reply.

Hi @PrashantA ,

I think whether the data source is split should have no effect.

When your RAM becomes full, Windows moves some of the data from your RAM back to your hard drive, placing it in the page file. This file is a form of virtual memory. While writing this data to your hard disk and reading it back later is much slower than using RAM, it’s back-up memory — rather than throwing potentially important data away or having programs crash, the data is stored on your hard drive.
Windows automatically manages the page file’s settings for you. However, if you want to adjust your page file settings, you can do so from the Advanced System Settings window.

What Is the Windows Page File, and Should You Disable It? (howtogeek.com)

You can also download a program to display the current memory usage of Windows in the system tray.

If the problem is still not resolved, please provide detailed error information or the expected result you expect. Let me know immediately, looking forward to your reply.

Should I store the folder data on my PC Local drive (C) or One drive coz i heard that if I keep it on one drive then will have internet issue and sometimes report also crashed in between or refresh will be slower.

Hi @PrashantA ,

You can try to save the files on different drives to prevent insufficient space.

@amitchandak , as mentioned above have tried to increase the virtual memory to 7000/12GB but still received the same error message. I have 16GB RAM in my system and the space available on local drive is 119GB out of 475GB.
