Help needed with Paginated Report having column groups to be vertical instead of horizontal

The issue you’re facing is that column groups (Dates) are expanding horizontally instead of appearing vertically for all levels in a matrix (stepped layout format).
Steps to Achieve Vertical Column Groups (Stepped Layout)
Use a Matrix Instead of a Table
- Ensure you are using a Matrix and not a standard Table.
- The Matrix allows grouping on rows and columns dynamically.
Set Up Row Groups Properly
- In the Row Groups pane:
- Add hierarchical levels (Level 1, Level 2a, Level 3a, etc.).
- Make sure that Date is inside each level so that it repeats across levels.
- In the Row Groups pane:
Move Date to Row Group Instead of Column Group
- Click on the Date field in the Column Group section.
- Drag it into the Row Groups pane so that dates appear vertically.
Modify Column Group Properties
- Right-click on the Date column group → Select Group Properties.
- In the Sorting tab, ensure the sorting is based on ascending order of Date.
- Under Visibility, set "Show if grouped" so that it doesn’t repeat unnecessarily.
Adjust Stepped Layout Format
- In Row Group Properties, enable "Keep Together" and "Stepped Layout".
- Make sure to merge cells for hierarchy levels where needed.
Adjust Totals Placement
- Right-click the Result row and select “Add Total” if needed.
- Ensure totals are positioned correctly for each level.

would you happen to have a sample file i can refer from? as im not able to follow from:
step 2: 'Make sure that Date is inside each level so that it repeats across levels.' do you mean repeating lik this?
and step 3: by pane i assume u referring to the bottom area?
i couldnt drag from the column group to the row group though?
and in step 4:
when i tried to edit the column group properties on visiblity, it does not have the 'show if grouped' field:

The behavior you're seeing is expected since column groups in a matrix expand horizontally by default. To achieve a vertical layout for Date within each hierarchical level while maintaining a stepped matrix format, you'll need to restructure your design. Use a Matrix, not a Table, and define your row groups hierarchically (e.g., Level 1 → Level 2 → Level 3). Then, instead of placing Date in the column group, add it as a child row group under each level. This allows dates to repeat vertically within each group. If Date is already in the column group, you can safely delete that group (select "Delete Group Only") and reintroduce Date in the row grouping area. Make sure to format the stepped layout using padding or indentation, and add totals if needed at each level. Let me know if you'd like a visual guide or sample layout to help illustrate this.

hi so, by putting it as child group, it will make it such that the expanding/collapse will be Level 1 -> Date -> Level 2 -> Date which is not wanted. regardless i have given up on this so no solutions.
