Hard to sell dashboard reporting services

Hi everyone, I know that this is a non-related Power BI question. But I am just curious on your thoughts on this issue.

So basically, we are an accounting firm and our company is offering dashboard reporting using Power BI for a year now and we got only few clients (less than 10) that has subscribed on the service. We are using a third party for data-integration and we consume mainly accounting SaaS such as Xero, MYOB, etc.

Are you guys having the same scenario where it is hard to sell dashboard reporting to clients? If so, how you'd overcome this?

Appreciated all your comments 😊

Hi @ronaldbalza2023

I have similar problems when I try to convince people from other departaments in my company to use the reports I prepared for them.

I think that you have to remember that the people who are supposed to consume the reports are usually not the "number" people and they might not care about the data. They also might have troubles in learning to use new software that they are not used to.

Also in my opinion accounting can be very ungrateful profession. I suppose that many of your clients are rather small businesses. For people like that the accounting and analysys is just a hassle that they want to push to someone else, forget about it and get back to work on the core of their business.

From my experience, the best thing you can do to convince someone to use your reports is to talk with these people about their needs and requirements. Then build a report according to instructions. This will mean that probably your "standard" report won't work for everyone and you will have to create reports tailored specificly for every client. So it's up to you to decide if it is profitable.

On the other hand you can look at it like this: I have a "standard" report that I can provide to all clients. It's maintenanceless and costless so it's like free money 🙂
