Grouping times during a day

Hi Guys.

I am attemtping to group a set of times throughout a day into different categrories.

i.e. 8am-12pm is group 1. 1pm to 5pm is group 2 and so on.

The grouping/bin fucntion  is still not working within BI desktop.

can anyone provide some help for a formula?

Hi @Anonymous

You can create a small paramter Table defining your Range of Times. For example

GroupStart TimeEnd Time
Group 1812
Group 21224
Group 308

Then you can add a calculated column in your main table... determining the Group in which each time falls.

Using a column like

=
CALCULATE (
    FIRSTNONBLANK ( Parameters[Group], 1 ),
    FILTER (
        Parameters,
        HOUR ( TableName[Time] ) >= Parameters[Start Time]
            && HOUR ( TableName[Time] ) < Parameters[End Time]
    )
)
