Matrix rows that are "greyed out" with a default overlay (when a single row is selected) are lighter than the selected row when a dark row background is used (in a dark mode report theme). This has the reverse effect to what is desired.
I want to switch off that default overlay and change the font colour of the unselected rows to a darker colour (to visually "deselect" these rows) instead. Is there a way to do this?
On a search a while back I saw information about default setting buried somewhere - not in .json but another PBI file component - but my current search is not finding anything about this. This area is where that greying-out "overlay" is applied.
Hi @GlendaN
Since highlighting a selected row is not a theme setting, there’s no simple way to change it. If such an option exists, it would only be possible by exporting a PBIP file and modifying it through the code.
I suggested the option as Idea please vote for it here:

It is in fact the UNselected rows that currently have a grey colour applied. So it's a kind of reverse highlighting at the moment. With a light background and dark text - this highlight or "overlay" serves to make the UNselected text lighter - serving the purpose of making the selected text stand out more.
But when a dark mode kind of theme is used - this looks terrible.
I think the best solution would be for this default overlay to be removed and for there to be an additional setting that allows us to format the selected and / or unselected rows.
Hi @GlendaN ,
Base on your description, it seems like you want to modify the visual appearance of the matrix rows in Power BI when a row is selected. Unfortunately, Power BI's default behavior applies a greyed-out overlay to unselected rows, which appears lighter in dark mode, as you mentioned. There is no options or settings to change this default behavior in Power BI currently. You can adjust the theme colors to improve the contrast and visibility of the selected and unselected rows:
Best Regards
Thanks. I am working with a pre-determined theme which is consistent with the company's branding - so I cannot change it to suit this requirement.
MS needs to provide us some options for this overlay!
