Google Sheet access as Public to import in to desktop

Hi,

Is it mandatory to give Google sheet access as Public ( anyone can view ) to import sheet into Power BI desktop ? as my organisation does not allow it to have it shared as public.

Is there any other alternate way to do this ?

Thanks in advance !!!

Hello,

I don´t think it is mandatory to have it public, as I have private Gdocs linked to Power BI, and multiple users have access to the report (although they don´t have access to the Gdoc).

The way I do it is to force an output from the Gdoc when importing the link:

add to the Gdoc adreess link in the end '.../pub?output=csv' and it will dump the data into the report.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for replying @Fra

So, I have  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/googlesheetid/edit#gid=0  so, now if i change to  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/googlesheetid/pub?output=csv  under Getdata -->Web then it showing Document table

Hello,

The way I was able to do import data was

  • publishing the gdoc to the web (see definitions in the pic)
  • go to Power BI, get data from web, paste the link given
  • And you should be able to see your GDOC data
  • As long as the users don´t have access to the address link, they will not be able to see it inside Power BI
