Google Analytics connector- does it import & store or just connect to live data?
Hello,
I am starting to experiment using the built-in connector to Google Analytics 4 properties, using the version 2.0 beta connector. Does anyone know if this integration imports Google Analytics data in and stores it over time, or just connect to the live data?
So after 6 months of having a PowerBI dashboard that connects and refreshes, would it show the full 6 months, or only the live 2 months available in GA itself? That is to say, if the GA property is set to retain 2 months of event data, will PowerBi continue to store data that it connected to prior, or is it more like a live connection and would only be a constantly rolling 2 months in the dashboard.

Hi russellj
According to the information provided in the documentation, the Google Analytics connector should be in import mode.
By connecting Google Analytics in Power BI, you can immediately see how your website has been used over the last 6 months.
You can view the link below for more details:
Power BI + Google Analytics = Power Analytics | Microsoft Power BI Blog | Microsoft Power BI

Unfortunately, it's just a rolling 2 months. Once you refresh, then the data won't be saved. If you pay for BQ, then you can connect to that instead.

Appreciate your info and the answer itself- really good news that it's import mode. I'll keep an eye on it and over time hopefully I see the range start date remain while it accumulates new data from it.
Thanks!

Hello russellj As another comment here mentioned, the built-in connector just rolls 2 months of data. As a workaround, maybe you can try to test your connection with a 3rd party tool. I currently use windsor.ai's GA4 connector and for 1 year data it works fine, for more than 1 year data it can struggle, but at least can be a good option I think. In case you wonder, to make the connection first search for the GA4 connector in the data sources list:
After that, just grant access to your GA4 account using your credentials, then on preview and destination page you will see a preview of your GA4 fields:
There just select the fields you need. Finally, just select PBI as your data destination and finally just copy and paste the url on PBI --> Get Data --> Web --> Paste the url.
