Goal (Preview) filter for the last 12 months

Hello, Power BI community,

I have a Power BI desktop report that contains multiple Goal (Preview) visuals.
The said visuals are connected to different scorecards (goals).
The scorecards contain data starting from 1-1-2024 and the content of the goals is updated each month with check-ins.
I would like to have the option to display only the past 12 months (1-9-2024 to 1-9-2025 in this case) in the Power BI desktop report.

Is there a way to do that within the visual or scorecards settings? I know I can't use neither filters nor dax formulas to alter a scorecard related visualisation. I tried changing the start date to 1-9-2025 but still no impact on the Preview (Goal) visuals.
I have full admin rights over the scorecards and the desktop report.

Kind regards.

Hi @Robert-Stefan

You’re running into a current limitation of the Goal (Preview) / Metrics visual in Power BI Desktop. As of Sep 22, 2025, the visual is a thin viewer over Metrics and doesn’t expose a property to limit the history window (for example, to the last 12 months), and it doesn’t respect report filters/DAX to change what the Metrics visual shows. This is expected for the preview visual. See Microsoft’s overview of Metrics/Scorecards and the preview visual notes: Get started with Metrics, Create scorecards and metrics, and the preview announcement noting limited cross-filtering: Metric visual (preview) blog.

Quick solution

If you need a 12-month window in your report, don’t rely on the Goal (Preview) visual for that slice. Instead, build a standard visual from data and filter it to the last 12 months, and keep the Goal visual purely for status/owner/target.

Feature ask
If you want a first-class “Time window” setting on the Goal visual (for example, Last N months), consider posting or upvoting it in Fabric Ideas so the product team can prioritize it.
