Getting latest (summarised) data not working as expected

Hi all,

 

I have a data set that has assets being reported, which a particular "level". These levels are High, Medium, Low and N/A.

I have a page that is set up as a drill through, to show the most recent data on a particulat asset.

The drill through is set up so the Asset name = Asset A, and then I set the fields to show the Last or Latest data for each column.

 

For some reason, a particular asset (lets call it Asset C) is not summarising properly. You can see the data below, and for the report years 2012 onwards, it's been reported as High, with one Low in 2016.

But yet, the data card set to show the last/latest level is showing Low - not High. (You can also see this in the total row of the table, which is set up to summarise the last level)

 

I've tried playing with the sort order of the underlying table, to no avail. This is the only asset that I've noticied summarises wrong, but I haven't gone through all of them as there is quite a lot.

 

Any ideas why this is happpeneing and how to fix it? I need the data card to say 'High' as the latest level for this asset.

      The 'Date' column is a date field formatted to mmm yyyy. 

      The format shouldn't make a difference, and to check, I changed the format to your suggested 'yyyymm' and it still summarised the 'Last' level as low.

       

      Are you suggesting that PBI doesn't have the functionality to get the 'last' value through the summarisation 'last'?

    Hi,

    Why should the data card show Medium?  From the Table that you have shared, the latest status (as on June 2023) is High.  If my understanding is correct, then download the link from where i can download the PBI file.

      That was a typo on my behalf - it should say 'High' (but instead says Low).

      I'm unable to share this dataset due to privacy reasons - I was hoping there was some systemic reason for this, that's causing this funny error.

    Hi bh2101 ,

     

    I tried to create the sample data and if "Level" is a Column it does not show Total, so your Level is a measure?

     

    Is there a conditional filter in your measure DAX syntax that is returning an incorrect Total, can you show me your measure syntax?

    May I ask if your problem has been solved?

     

    I think your Level is a measure, could you tell me the syntax of the measure, I would appreciate it.
