I have been connecting to Oracle DB successfully using the older Oracle client but after the September 2023 update for Power BI desktop the older client would not work, instead a message is shown to download the latest Oracle Client for Microsoft Tools, I have done this, I downloaded the 64 bit, my Power BI Desktop app is also 64 bit, I copied over the tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files over to my network/admin folder. edited the tnsnames.ora file, But after trying to connect to the oracle db getting the following error message: Oracle: ORA-12637: Packet receive failed.
I also tried to edit the sqlnet.ora file as well using the following:
SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE)
NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, LDAP, EZCONNECT)
But still cannot get Power BI to connect, also there is a lack of tutorials on the web on using the oracle client for ms tools.

The error message "ORA-12637: Packet receive failed" suggests a network-related problem.
try after disabling the firewall/ antivirus , maybe it is preventing the communication.
also check the configuration of the oracle client. maybe you need an updated oracle client.

The Oracle client is up to date as I installed it just yesterday, but will try to reinstall it, Shouldn't be an issue with the antivirus or firewall as the older Oracle client worked as well as using Oracle SQL Developer on a daily basis,
ok. i'd be glad to know how you solve this.
Have submitted a ticket request for this issue, will update the solution thanks.
Have had to reinstall the older versions of both oracle client and Power BI.
