Get data: SharePoint List: Unable to connect

First time ever opening PowerBI desktop. Excited to get started by connecting a SharePoint list (made in Lists) per this tutorial. Upon clicking OK after pasting list URL, this error pops up.Screenshot 2022-10-14 161623.png

Any idea why? List exists within my organization. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Edit: seeing your replies, but must find time to implement. I'll respond as soon as I can. Thanks for taking the time to help.

Hi  ,Please try below steps:

1. Please confirm that you enter the root url for the sharepoint site not including subfolders

2. Please confirm you have permission for the sharepoint site, you can set it in the sharepoint site.

For more details, you can read related document: Customize SharePoint site permissions - SharePoint in Microsoft 365 | Microsoft Learn

3. Confirm you have sign in Microsoft Account

Hi AS_SI,

Thank you for reaching out to the Power BI community! It's great to see new members here!

Sharing a few tips that have helped me when trying to connect to data on a SharePoint site.

  1. Having owner permissions on the SharePoint site certainly helps - Edit permissions haven't always worked for me 🙂
  2. Check out the Microsoft Learn site list of data sources, and what is needed to connect - link is Power BI Data Sources Table

Now that you have the Power BI Data Sources Table, look up "SharePoint List" in the table.

Notice that connecting to a SharePoint List, requires you to have a personal gateway setup.

Another link to help you is the Use a Personal Gateways In Power BI - Install a Data Gateway (personal mode)

Please let me know how you go!

Best,
Kelly

Owner status confirmed. Gateway seems to be optional according to that data sources table.

Content is online, not on-premises. Although this is my first exposure to data gateways, I'm inclined to say one may not be necessary.
