Get Data from existing data model
Hello everyone,
I've created a report with a dataset and published both to a workspace. The dataset has had some modelling work and so I would like to reuse it. To do this, I start a new report, then click 'Get data from another source', this opens the Get Data screen. I click Power Platform and Power BI Datasets. The 'Select a dataset to create a report' screen appears and shows a list of my datasets. However, when I select a dataset I get the following message. Cannot load model. Screen shot below.
I'm certain the dataset is there and I have permission, if not I don't think it would have allowed me to select it.
Is this the correct way to connect to an existing dataset? Any help to explain/resolve this would be amazing.
Don't know if this is relevent but the data is on premise but I have a refresh schedule in place via the data gateway.

The solution to this was simply to use Power BI Desktop from a Windows 10 computer, then it worked fine, I can connect to existing datasets and have the 'One version of the truth' I wanted.
Frustrating because the error message points to a completely different problem and because, as far as I can tell, everything else works in Windows 7. Anyway, it's working great now and I'm very happy.

You could try the following:
1. Ensure that both the published report and new report are using the same Power BI Desktop version.
2. The link below may be helpful. One suggestion is to disable the following setting: In Power BI Desktop, go to Options —> Global —> Preview Features; turn off “Store datasets using enhanced metadata format”. However, this setting has been removed in the November 2020 version.

If this doesn’t resolve it, you might try creating a test report, publish it to the same workspace, and see if you can connect to its dataset. You could also try a different workspace, as well as have a different user try to connect to the dataset.
