Hello,
I am working with the GA4 connector in PBI Desktop :
And when connecting to a property (that is quite big), I get this error after selecting my dimensions and metric :
I have seen an other topic that mainly said to pre filter the data to try to avoid this error, but from my understanding you can't pref-filter the data in your API call. You import everything and then PBI does the filter. But since I retrieve the errors, the filter doesn't remove them (still the same error message on the "Filter rows" step).
I am working with the latest version of PBI Desktop (December 2023).
Is there any way to filter the data upstream before it reaches PBI ? Or any other idea ?
Thanks in advance !
Best regards
Hi @Ant_C ,
First upgrade your powerbi to the latest version, then delete the GA credential information in the data source setting and re-establish the connection.
Then in power query, simply select the data to filter in the query editor. Power BI will try to merge and simplify the steps in the query into an API request before sending it to Google Analytics.
Refer to below similiar solution:
powerbi - Apply filters to Google Analytics query URI in Power BI - Stack Overflow

Thanks for the reply.
I downloaded the February 2024 version that just came out, did these steps but unfortunately, the error still persists...

Hi @Ant_C Seems like the 2.0 beta connector is still presenting some issues. As a workaround, maybe you can try to test your connection with a 3rd party tool. I've tried windsor.ai, supemetrics and funnel.io. I stayed with windsor because it is much cheaper so just to let you know about other options. Also, I can pre-filter the data before taking it into PBI, I can do it on the tool page, it has a preview screen where you can select date range, fields or filter by some condition if you wish to. In case you wonder, to make the connection first search for the GA4 connector in the data sources list:
After that, just grant access to your GA4 account using your credentials, then on preview and destination page you will see a preview of your GA4 fields:
There just select the fields you need. Finally, just select PBI as your data destination and finally just copy and paste the url on PBI --> Get Data --> Web --> Paste the url.
