Formatting (Column Tools) not available in Power BI (Version: 2.137.1102.0 64-bit (October 2024)

Hi,

Does anyone else have the same problem? When I open the data in the Power BI Desktop, there doesn't appear the Column Tools tab as I choose any numeric value from the field list? Only the Table tools option is available. Data type for that Employee Number is whole number. The same problem occurs with date fields etc.

Any ideas how to fix this? Microsoft Store shows that I have the latest version, also restarting the application won't help.

I'll appreciate your help, thank you!

Hi @katina ,

If the sample data works fine, it's likely that the issue lies with your data. Could you specify the type of data source you are using for each .pbix file? Also, is this a recent issue? You might want to try entering data manually to test if the problem persists.

Yes, the data comes from the Google BigQuery - and the problem occurs with certain files which I updated during the 1st November. Thanks for your useful hint to try entering the data manually.

Hi @katina  The Column Tools tab where you find formatting option is contextual and only appears when you select a column of table in the data view and report view.

But in your screenshot, I found that lots of option disabled like table name, mark as date table etc. Those should be enabled. See image:

Please go to the model tab and check if there is formatting option available, like below:

You can try dummy table connection and check those options available or not. If not try uninstall and download the latest version and install again from the given link:

Hope this helps!!

If this solved your problem, please accept it as a solution and a kudos!!

This is weird, the model view is totally empty but I can see the fields (and data) both in the report and table views (but I'm not able to format it at all)

I just uninstalled and installed the latest versio, also Windows is updated.

The same problem occurs with every pbix. I have to try one more time, if restarting the laptop will help.

Any ideas how to solve this? - katina

Hi @katina - you can find the formatting tab in column tools, as you already selected the Table Tools ,

Please check and confirm.

Sorry, I've named that option wrong in my post - It is the Column Tools option that is not visible for me. That's the problem.  - katina
