Filtering Visualization Dates with a Running Total
I'm looking to display a cost variance between estimated and projected (anticipated) costs. From month to month, we update our projected cost to forecast any issues. I need a visual that shows me how my alpha (difference between these costs) has changed from month to month.
I've been able to do this with the "Running Totals" Quick Measure, however I havn't found a way to filter my visualization to just show the last 4-6 months. Whenever I apply a filter on my date (visualization) it throws off my running total. And unfortunately I cannot set a relative date filter within the "X Axis Start Date".
From the attached you can see that estimated costs go in first, and projections go in after - I need these numbers as part of my running total - I only really care about the last 3-6 months to see what is happening when a project is actually in progress.
Anyone have a suggestion?Using Line Chart and Running Total on Costs

Can you please share more details? Do you want to display only the values of last periods? If so, you can change the date range in the measure. If you want to show values when you filter the date, maybe you could a new date table as a slicer to filter it . Or you can post some sample data and the expected output. Then we can help you as soon as possible.

I apologize, I'm really not sure how I can make my explanation better. I can't exactly share my model (as it is massive). I'd be curious on how to apply a date filter to that formula - but for now we've determined that this visualization will not help us.
