Filled Map by Region

Hi all,

I have a filled map visualization that looks like this:

It currently is summarizing sales by state, but I'd like to have another map that shows sales by a defined region. Is there a way (or another visualization) that can accomplish this?

Here is how I'd like the states to be grouped:

Has the filled map visual changed recently? I found this thread that shows how to create a custom map and import it into the filled map visual but that doesn't appear to be possible anymore?
