Hi all, (and sorry not sure if this was meant to go under "Desktop" or "Service" part of the Get Help forum)
My PowerBi is taking data from excel files uploaded on SharePoint. It was all working fine until I had to rename one of the files on SharePoint. I then updated my sources everywhere on my PowerBi desktop (also saved in the Sharepoint) and in the Data source settings and gave permissions. I.e. copied the new file path with the updated name change. My dashboard is correct in the Desktop version but the dataset cannot be refreshed on PowerBi online as I get invalid credentials.
Now when I go into my Datasets, and go into Data source credentials - the file path is still the wrong/old file name, and not updating with the new one as per everywhere on Desktop:
and when I click edit credentials it is greyed out and I cannot edit it and the path is still wrong/old, and not what I have in my data source settings
I have tried removing, uninstalling and reinstalling the Personal Gateway and updated my Data Source Credentials.
What can I do to fix this? Any solutions would be much appreciated. Thank

Hi @Anonymous ,
If you saved your pbix just locally then the only one that got updated was your local copy. You need to re-publish it for the changes to reflect in the service.

Ok thanks. Howcome when prior to this problem, when I change other parts of the dashboard it would update online and I wouldn't have to republish it?
And if I do the above, will the shareable link and access/permissions remain the same?
If you made the changes in the online copy of your report, saving it will suffice. No need to re-publish.
And if I do the above, will the shareable link and access/permissions remain the same? - You are overwriting an existing report so the link and access/permissions should remain the same.
Wow, so it was that easy fix all along 😅😅 Thank you, much appreciated!
Hi @Anonymous ,
Have you published to the service the modified version of your pbix? Or have you published it to the same workspace?
Sorry not sure what that means - do I need to Publish my dashboard again instead of just saving it?
side question - if I publish it again (but overwrite/replace it using the same name) will it change the sharable link and permissions? Or keep them the same
