I recently tried to share a dataset with an eternal user. I already did it succesfully with another user before, so I knew what I needed to do.
The end result was that the external user is able to access and build report from the dataset in power BI service.
On the other hand, in Power BI desktop they see the "external data" tab in get data->PBI datasets but they see no dataset.
I tried on my external test account and it did work, but only until I updated Power BI desktop to the last version. Then I got a blank external data as well.
Did the last update break something? Or there are other options to tick? All the documentation I can find is from March.
Can you please check this thread : Solved: "Share datasets with external users" Settings issu... - Microsoft Fabric Community?
I didn't see that thread before. Are you suggesting that it is just a matter of waiting a bit of time?
Also it possibly isn't the same issue because my external user can access the dataset through PBI service and my test account can access it also through PBI desktop, but only with an old version (2.119.986.0 64-bit).
In that case you may contact the support team 🙂
