Exporting to Excel, data limit

Hi all, I work for a local government authority (so I cannot post any of the data here) but we have been using power BI to create tailored reports for data imported from other software via SQL.

For the reports we have been building we have been using the table visual to filter through the data and get information from different data tables, and the data shows up in the table.

However, we have noticed as we added more columns the amount of data that was exported (via clicking on the 3 dots, and export data) we were getting fewer rows in the data export. When we then removed some of the columns we started getting more data in the export, however we need the data from these reports.

So my question is, what is the factor/limitation to data exports? Is it the number of records, or perhaps number of characters?

I have looked for an answer for this, however I have not found an answer, one said maximum export size of 16mb, but our report is 767kb so that is not the case here, and the only limitation to limited characters I could find was in the millions per cell, and 30k rows for free users, and 150k for pro (please note I am a pro user). Also just to note there are no

As a work around we have been using multiple tables on the same report page connecting them via an id number, and then doing Vlookup within excel. Is this really the best way to do this?

Any assistance would be great.

Many thanks.

Hello @AdamJay ,

What you could do is connect to your power BI dataset from excel and build the report you want using the data you have in Power BI.

Hi, thanks for the response.

Unfortunately your suggestion would not work. We are working with so many tables and so much data that this would be virtually impossible to use excel as for source for data importing, which is why we started using Power BI.

We basically need to work out how much we can trust power bi’s data exports and if there is any way around these issues.
