Export to Excel button without specifying filepath

Hello,

Can anyone help? I want to be able to create a button within my Power BI report to export my data to Excel. The data is a list of inflation indices.

I am aware you can click the elipsis and export the Power BI but the user wants to export the data to Excel and for ease a button next to the table Export to Excel would be useful, want I require is the excel data to pop up and the user to then be able to save it in a location of there choosing rather than me having to specify a single location as multiple users may be accessing.

Thanks!!

  • Hi jaltoft,

    Could you check this methods:

    Note:

    • The ability to export data (in any form) can be disabled by a Power BI admin at the tenant level or by the report designer at the dataset level (If these features are not working, you need to contact your Power BI admin)
    • If your data is tagged with a sensitivity label that has protection settings, exporting the data will apply these protections to the Excel file
if this post helps, then I would appreciate a thumbs up and mark it as the solution to help the other members find it more quickly.
  • Hi jaltoft

Power BI does not support creating a custom “Export to Excel” button that opens a Save dialog.
The only export method is the built-in Export Data option or a Power Automate flow.

I was more hoping the Power Automate option would give me an option to open an Excel or CSV in which the data would pop up for the user and allow them to save?
