I have Excel Connected to Power BI DataSet. (Using the Connect to Data Power BI plugin in Excel).
I have 2 filters in place, one for date set to 1/1/2018 and one for 1 account number.
I can run the query in the pivot table for one row field only.
If I add additional fields, (even 1 more field), the OLAP query hangs, takes ages to run and does not put the selected field into rows of the pivot table.
Conversly, if I use Power BI Desktop and connect to the Power BI dataset in the PBI Web Service it works great. I can select 20 fields and filter the date to 6 months and it runs in under 5 mins.
Not sure why excel is so extremely slow and doesn't work.

Hi Dale,
Thanks for your feedback.
I did resolve the Excel issue. It was because I needed Calculated members in my output. Including Calculated Measures in excel from the pivot table, not only speed up the Power Pivot queries but also ensured the relationships I had built in Power BI Worked
Thanks.
@gm could you elaborate on this solution? What do you mean you included calculated measures? Is that from the remote dataset in Power BI service or in the local Excel data model in the file running the queries?
Hi @GM1,
There won't be only cause in this scenario.
1. Always use the 64-bit software, both Excel and Desktop.
2. Always use the latest version of software.
3. The size of the model. Power BI is more powerful in handling big dataset.
Please check out.
Best Regards,
Dale
