Error when starting Power bi

Receiving error "AS Process PID=1740 has exited with ExitCode=0, ExitTime=2025-11-10T08:33:30.6925933-08:00" when starting Power bi.  I even uninstalled and reinstalled with same result.  Please help.

  • Hi Bubbsterd,

May be incompatibility with Windows version ex: older OS like Windows 7 which is no longer supported for newer Power BI Desktop versions andi ssues with the Microsoft Store version vs the direct installer. Some users found the Store version fails while the MSI/EXE version works.

    Thanks,

  • I'm running the latest version of Windows 11 and it worked last month.  I even tried to uninstall the MSI/EXE version and install the stores version and got the same results.

  • Hi Bubbsterd

I believe that is the Analysis Services process exiting.

It can be caused by a crashed PBI hanging processes, but if you have uninstalled and reinstalled then you must have rebooted so that reboot would have cleared any such issue.

Have you changed or updated your anti-virus/malware/firewall software?  It could be blocking the process from starting.  Try turning off your AV softare for 2 mins and starting PBI to see if that works.

You can also try clearing the PBI cache: Open PBI Desktop -> File -> Options and Setings (bottom left) -> Options -> Global -> Data Load (left menu) -> Clear Cache

    Regards

    Phil

Thank you for your resonse.  I can't get into the options as when I first start up the program I get the error.  Then if I cancel it, I go to options and then it just spins on "Working on It" screen.

I'll have to talk with my IT group about the virus protection but I don't think anything changed there.

OK you can manually clear the cache but the way you do that depends on how you installed PBI Desktop.

Shut down Power BI - and reboot if you want to make sure it isn't running.

Open a Command Prompt and see if you can access this folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\

If you can then do these steps.

        1. Delete the cache folder

        2. Delete the AnalysisServicesWorkspaces folder

If you can't acces that folder (like me) then try to access this folder instead   %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftPowerBIDesktop_8wekyb3d8bbwe\

        and do these steps

        1. Delete everything inside the LocalCache folder (not the folder itself)

        2. Delete everything inside the TempState folder (not the folder itself)

        Restart Power BI.

    Oi, tudo bem?

I tried all of your suggestions with the same result.  I am contacting our IT to see if it has something to do with the antivirus installed.

      Thank you!
