Error when Importing Excel via SharePoint Folder Connector in Power BI

Hello,

I am trying to import an Excel using the SharePoint folder connector, but I keep encountering the following error.

DataSource.Error: Credentials are required to decrypt this workbook, but none were provided. Details: Path=https://aaworkplace.sharepoint.com/sites/aaaaaaaaaaaaaa ErrorMessage=Client application failed to provide authentication token for HTTP request., CorrelationId=1e908cec-914a-427a-bf51-9b64d27d9a6a, CorrelationId.Description=PolicyProfile

I thought it would be a simple process of authentication with my MS account, but this error persists.
Is there a way to resolve this issue?

Is there anything I should check regarding permissions or file security?

I can view the excel on SharePoint, so I assume I have the necessary permissions.

The excel has a sensitivity label applied—could this be related to the issue?

I need your help.

Hi @Lora9999 ,

Thanks danextian  for the quick reply. I have some other ideas to add:

During my investigation I have found users in the past who have had similar experiences to you .
The solution given by other forum users are:

(1)Remove the password protection from excel file

(2)Remove sensitivity label on your source files

How can I check if I have access permissions to the folder?

Hi @Lora9999

Are you able to access the folder itself in SharePoint and not just the Excel file?

Just open the Sharepoint  Folder you are trying  to access with Power BI in a browser.

@danextian

The SharePoint folder is accessible. Could it be because the Excel is encrypted(Protect Workbook Mode)?

If the workbook itself has been password-protected then the error makes sense as there is no way for Power BI to access the content without entering a password  which is not possible from the connection. If Power BI can then that defeats the purpose of password-protecting a file.
