Error message in data set power bi online

Hi

I have a data set with 2 data sources. One source is our ERP system, other source is an excel file as the table from ERP system belonging to that data is not yet available to use in Power BI Desktop. I have to manually update that excel file ofcourse, with latest data from ERP system.

But now i get error message in automated refresh in power bi online. Error message is (in Dutch):

Fout in de gegevensbron:De geplande vernieuwing is uitgeschakeld omdat in ten minste één gegevensbron de referenties ontbreken. Als u de vernieuwing weer wilt starten, gaat u naar de instellingenpagina van de gegevensset en geeft u referenties op voor alle gegevensbronnen. Activeer vervolgens de geplande vernieuwing weer.

translated: error in data source

PLanned refresh has been cancelled due to at least one source where references are missing. If you want to restart the automated refresh, go to settings of the data set and fill in the references for all data sources. After that activate the automated refresh again.

Point is...my excel file is always on same location, name doesnt change. And its updated.

So i don't get why it gives that weird message. And i cant find the data set settings for data source references....all just seems normal as in begin, when it did work.

How can i solve this so my automated refresh is working again? I cant change the automated refresh in the data set as that is greyed out now. Probs because of that error message.

Hi @bvdm1980

You can try the following steps to fix this problem:

Check the data source credentials. Enter the Power BI service. Navigate to the workspace that contains your data set.

Click on the three dots next to the data set (more options) and select Settings. Under data source credentials, ensure that the credentials of the ERP system and Excel files are correctly entered and are up to date.

If your Excel files are stored on a local network or locally, make sure the data gateway is properly configured and running. In data set Settings, check that the correct gateway is selected for the Excel file.

In the dataset Settings, check the refresh history to see if there are any specific error messages.

Reuploading Excel files to the same location may help reset potential problems with file references.

If your Excel files or ERP system data sources use dynamic data sources, refresh issues may arise. Ensure that the data source is static and not dynamically generated.

Hey @v-nuoc-msft

Thanks for this explanation. I finally found where it goes wrong. Searched before but couldnt find it.

Apparently it says my excel file connection/gateway is offline. And that's probably beacuse its on a network drive rather than in the cloud.

I thought...okay lets move the file to the OneDrive location online, which is always live. But it still gives me that "offline" message. Cant use my credentials for windows/company in Power BI for this file as it keeps saying credentials arent correct (even when i use current windows credentials).

So it doesnt matter for now if i use a local file or an online version, sadly.

Does your power query code refer to a local directory on your computer?

Hi Barwe, you mean the navigation source of the imported table? if so, yes thats local as well. But as said in reply to Chen, when i want to change that to online onedrive location, it doenst accept my company's credentials. Which is weird.
