Error loading visual - OLE or ODBC error

Hello, seems over time - I'm getting this message more frequently.   I am using a thin report connected to a dataset within the service.   The visual appears to be fine, and then within 20 seconds or so - this message pops up.

I am also experience extremely slow updates/refreshes from the service - and often see a similar error message.   What does this all mean, and more importantly - is there a solution.   Other's experience the same issue when utilizing the same file.

Where do I start understanding this problem?

thanks!

    Thank you for responding.

Later in the day (after submitting this post) - the challenges went away.   I am not sure what the story was - the issue took place on several desktop machines (with either June/July22 updates.   But, a few hours later, the issue seemed to have corrected itself automatically.

The datasource is another pbix datamodel within the service - so i assume that would be live to that point?
As I was digging (after submitting the original post).

I did notice in PBI known issues - there were some warnings and alerts in certain regions.   Possibly that?

  • Hi Dellis81 ,

Are you using live connection? Which data source are you using? Which version of Power BI Desktop? It seems that this problem may be caused by the connection to the data source. Please check If the path to connect to the data source correct and the following scenarios:

    • Database permissions are not valid. Importing or processing data is an operation that obtains security context information from the Impersonation Option page of the Data Source. Depending on which option you selected, data retrieval is requested as either the service account, the current user, or stored Windows user credentials. Whatever account is used for data retrieval must have read permissions on the external data source.
    • Data Provider version or bit-level. This error is known to occur when the connection is from a 32-bit client application, using 32-bit data providers, and the target server is 64-bit. The solution is to install both 32-bit and 64-bit data providers.

    Best Regards,
