Error loading into model, Black Bar in model view

Hi all! 

I am having a very strange issue trying to load ANY new queries into my report

I added a brand new data set (typed out so no connection needed) and it will refuse to load correctly

It shows as this on the Model View with a black line above

And this is the message when I try to apply any changes when the new data is in the PQ

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Most likely data issue. Can you go to transform data view 

and click on query and check if you are seeing red color bottom on column. that column most likely having an issue especially happens with date columns

There is only one column and it is text, my main struggle is that there are no errors in any of the queries before I press Close and Apply

Then it loads, shows me the rows, Detects relationships and then give me the error message

Is it 1-1 relationship it shows you may have 13 values repeated atleast once as per distict and unique count.

Hi @MM1001,

I tried to reproduce the issue as described. I created a new table with a single column named Text_ID containing sample text values like “N089030”, “N089045”, etc.

The data was either entered manually or loaded through Power Query, and the column type remained as text. There were no errors in the query, and after clicking Close & Apply, the data loaded successfully without any issues.

The table appeared properly in Data View, and there were no red error indicators or failed load messages. In the Model View, the table was visible without any relationships, as I didn’t create or connect it to any other table.

This confirms that a basic, single-column text table loads fine in Power BI under normal conditions. If you're still facing the black bar issue or model load error, it could be due to auto-relationship detection, a background model corruption, or a version-specific bug.

You might want to disable auto-detect relationships in File > Options > Data Load or try loading the same data in a fresh PBIX file to test further.

Hi there!

After some further testing, I’ve noticed a consistent issue. When I create a Power BI report from scratch in the desktop app and add new schemas, everything works perfectly — relationships are detected, and data loads as expected.

However, when I download an existing report (either from the Power BI Service or from a restored file), the Auto Detect Relationships feature seems to break. Even if the new schema doesn’t contain any detectable relationships, the data fails to load properly, and I get a dataset with the black highlight I mentioned earlier.

Interestingly, if I disable Auto Detect Relationships in these downloaded reports, I’m then able to add new schemas without any issues.
