Windows 2008 Server is no longer supported. I suspect you don't have the correct version of the .NET framework, but getting any help from MS won't really happen. Windows 2008 was dropped in 2019 I believe. You'll need to install on 2012 or later.

Hi @Anonymous - I meant specifically Windows 2008 R2 is out of support. You can try to install the latest version of the .NET framework and see if that helps.

Power BI has offiically been dropped from Windows 7 support per this page. Windows 2008 server is the same underlying code base (same generation) so it is in that same boat.

While I think technicaly you are correct that Dec 2020 should work, MS has moved on and I doubt they will spend much time getting it to work. Per link above, Feb 2021 will not work.

On the download page, https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=58494, the system requirements does show Windows Server 2008 R2 as supported.  But from what you are saying, that is incorrect.
