    Hi pqian and Community:

     

    Thanks for your help!  I had confirmed a solution to this problem a month or so ago, but neglected to update this thread and mark it resolved.

     

    The solution: Specify the server port number when adding a SQL Server that uses custom port as database connection, i.e. [DbServerName]:[PortNumber]

I've gone through the steps of graphics card driver update.  It says already the latest.  Screenshot of driver detail.

 

Also, I'm using Power BI Desktop, not Power BI Online/365.

 

 

 I also just tried limiting the amount of data by adding a SELECT statement on the Import data from SQL Server screen - didn't help.

    IE9 ... does this matter if I'm running Power BI Desktop?

      N5pn4cya Yes it does. Is it possible to upgrade to IE10? Are your colleagues also using IE9 machines and have no problem?

       

      Meanwhile, I'll try to get an IE9 machine and see what's up with it.

        pqian thanks for going the extra mile and helping out to validate on IE9.  In my job, i have an application that relies on IE9 and earlier, so I cannot upgrade immediately.  I'll also get my hands on another machine with IE10 or IE11.  Keep in touch.
