Embed power bi report on a SharePoint app

Hi,

As per the documentation provided by Microsoft we can embed a report or app on a SharePoint page. But is it possible to embed reports on a SharePoint app.

If so can you please help me with a document or a link on how to do this.

Also it will be a great help if you can help me know what is the difference between publishing to page and app.

Thanks,

Akash

Hi, @akash0800

According to your descritpion, you use the "Embed a report in a secure portal or website", and you remove the rls but it worked for few people and is not working for few others.

The Embed option doesn't automatically permit users to view the report. View permissions are set in the Power BI service. You need to check these people have the permission  for the report and need also have the shareponit permission.

In the Power BI service, you can share embedded reports with users who require access. If you use a Microsoft 365 Group, you can list the user as a workspace member.

And in my understand , the  security of the iframe and embed link is the same. The URLs they generate are actually the same, showing the data content that the logged-in user has access to.

Hi , @akash0800

Sorry, I'm not very familiar with SharePoint apps, according to your description, you want to embed an app in SharePoint apps, for your needs, You can embed your reports into SharePoint using two methods.

1. Power BI Web Part  :
Embed a report web part in SharePoint Online - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

2.Iframe :

Embed a report in a secure portal or website - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

You can determine whether to support Embed to a SharePoint app based on your actual situation.

Hi,

Thanks for the directions. As suggested, I tried embedding the report in SharePoint online and removed the RLS, so that everyone in my organization can view the report.

Now there was a new problem, the users are asked to signin into power BI. It worked for few people and is not working for few others (They could not signin).

can you help me know what could be the problem for this.

Also, is there any security difference between iframe and embed link.

Thanks,

Akash
