Dynamic update column names

Hi, I have a monthly budget table contains project id, Jan Budget, Jan Forecast and so on till Dec. Each month will have two columns Budget and Forecast, whenever the month passed, we will rename Forecast to Actual (Jan Forecast --> Jan Actual). Budget column will remain intact. Now when we change the column name, power query will give error "Column not found" because of rename.

So, please suggest, how would i handle this issue to avoid future errors ?

Thanks

Hi, @vijayvizzu

You obviously used 'pivot' in your table, and the column name you mentioned is no longer in the table presented at the end. What kind of results do you want to get in the picture you displayed?

Best Regards

Janey Guo

@vijayvizzu

The first point I note here is that you should never have pivoted data in your tables, it should always be in unpivoted format. Jan, Feb, etc. are not supposed to be columns they must be in a   column named Month Names, preferably in a date table. SAme goes with actual and forecast could be arranged in columns. Please refer to these videos on how to handle them:
