Dynamic Period over Period Analysis

Hello, i'm wondering if anyone can help or has a solution. I need to compare two consecutive periods on a column chart - I'm just learning BI but my office needs a report, so i'm in a bind.

I'm comparing fall and spring periods but the date ranges for each period may vary year to year, so not sure I can use a YOY calc. On the visual, the current period should be on the right, with the previous period on the left.  So which ever period is selected in the slicer, I need the report to plot the previous period on the visual for comparison, if that is even possible.

You're attempting to do something that isn't actually for beginners but, in the video description, there is a link to a downloadalbe sample pbix.
