Dynamic Page Filter by Excluding the Options Not Selected

Hi there! I am wondering if it is possible to create a "starts with" page filter that is dynamic so that the user can select which option they want, but it only shows the selected filter rows.

Basically, I don't want the non selected filter to be greyed out, I want it completely out of the visual.

Here's a sample dataset called "Candy":

This is what I have tried by creating a new column and filtering the "starts with" using the LEFT DAX function:

Here's the DAX code:

 

 

Candy Type =
SWITCH(
    TRUE(),
    LEFT('Candy'[Name], 8) == "Smarties", "Smarties",
    LEFT('Candy'[Name], 7) == "Rockets", "Rockets",
    LEFT('Candy'[Name], 4) == "Oreo", "Oreo"
)


This is the visual that I want with the page filter being enabled and ONLY showing those specific rows:

 

However, I want this dynamically through a user inputted select option.

    Proquation you can turn on search on the slicer and let user search in the slicer to filter.

      Hi Parry,

       

      Thank you for your response; however, the solution that you are proposing does not work with the "starts with" advanced filter option that I want. With the solution that you proposed, I can see all of the options that begin with the search string, but I want to be able to select all of them in one fell swoop.

      Here is your proposed solution if I interpreted it correctly:

      But instead, I want to have an option just called "Rockets" that will filter the page with Candies that start with Rockets (Rockets Classic, Halloween, Christmas).

      Something like this (editied in MS paint), where if I select Rockets, it would show those 3 Rockets categories as they start with the string "Rockets":

    Proquation I don't think anything available out of the box, or someone has to use a filter pane, or you can use a custom visual Find the right app | Microsoft AppSource

      Ah I see, that is quite unfortunate. I will try out the Text Filter App you sent.
