Dynamic Credentials for SQL Server Connection using Parameter

Hi,

I have to connect Azure SQL DB from Power BI/

I have created Parameters for SQL Server Name and SQL DB name but can't parameterize the DBUsername and Password.Need help on this.

Is there any other way where we can read the DataBase details from a text file and load the data in Power BI?

Hi @Anonymous ,

It is unavailable to get such a different config files for the same .pbix file in Power BI currently. You can come up a new idea about that , and add your comments there to improve Power BI for making this feature coming sooner.

As a workaround, you may publish the same .pbix file to your goal workspaces, then change the parameters about the Azure SQ DB credentials in different workspaces in Power BI Service.

Hi @Anonymous

Can you describe what is your final goal in more detail?

Why do you need to use SQL credentials dynamically?

Thanks @Mariusz  for your quick response.

We have 3 environments(workspace) and we want to use a config file or similar thing which will store DB details. When the reports will be pubslushed to Power BI service, we will use the same .pbix file with a different Config file.So that, don't have to open the file everytime and change the DB details for different environments.

Hi @Anonymous

You store your credentials is gateway connection, so you don't need to pass it as parameters

Mariusz
