Dynamic Columns for Time Period (Quarter Expansion/Collapse)

Here is an example of what I'd like to create. I can easily create a matrix that has rows or columns with years, quarters & months, but I can't figure how how to shows the column groups in the proper way. I'd like for full quarters to collapse, but quarters with less than three months to be expanded, with the YTD total being at the end.

The actual value measures are simple, just a count rows and an average of a number field.

Bonus points if I can add the target on the left as well.

I've tried caluclation groups, calculated columns, and a variety of other methods but I can't quite figure it out.

  • Unfortunately, expanding/collapsing columns in matrix visuals are quite limited and you can only leverage from the standard "Drill on: Columns". The only way to collapse those columns would be to manually reduce their width, but it isn't a sustainable solution and certainly not a nice one.

I have not. I'm thinking I'll need to create some sort of dynamic table or something along those lines to make the layout that I need. If I come up with something I'll post it.
