Dropdown Slicer to Trigger Bookmarks in Power BI
- 5 months ago
Hi muhammedswaliha ,
Taking into consideration your requirement I would suggest to have field parameters and not bookmarks.
With Field paramaters you can add all the columns and measures you want on a specific view and then dinamically change the values.
In this case since you are using a table view you can create a Field parameter and add and additional column that categorizes those fields and then just use it on the slicer this will dinammically change your result without the need for additional visuals and configuration.
It's a scalable option and with low maintenance, if you want you can even make a excel file that will updated your field parameter in the future without the need to redo the Power BI desktop part again.
If there are fields similar in both options you can always add them on your table and then use the field parameters after those field because they work has a normal column or measure.
This is a simple example where I change the fields in the table showing the cost or sales columns that I selected in the field parameter.
Be aware that for the example I did not make the values to be correct is just to see the dynamics.

Short answer: No, a slicer cannot directly trigger bookmarks in PBI.
PBI bookmarks are only triggered by buttons, images or bookmark navigator, not by slicers or filter selections. There is no native binding between slicer values and bookmark actions.
Recommended Workaround:
Instead of bookmarks, use a disconnected table + slicer + DAX + visuallevel filtering:
-
Create a table like:
View Selector = {"Batting Records","Bowling Records"} -
Add it as a dropdown slicer
-
Create a measure:
Selected View = SELECTEDVALUE('View Selector'[View]) -
Use this measure in visual level filters:
-
Batting table -> show when
"Batting Records" -
Bowling table -> show when
"Bowling Records"This approach scales cleanly for 3+ views and behaves like dynamic view switching without bookmarks. If you want a cleaner UX later, you can also look at Field Parameters, but for show/hide logic, the above method is the most practical.
