Downloading a report and republishing it creates a duplicate report.

Why does this happen. Sometimes it does not. I am logged in using the same account on my desktop and service.

What do I need to check?

I downloaded the pbix, and re published without changing anything, it still creates new data set and new report.

Hi,

I dont know if you found the solution but recently i was also facing the same issue of duplicate reports even when the filenames were same.

This happened because i was downloading from the report side the PBIX with copy of data and when i was publishing it was creating a duplicate report with separate dataset.

To resolve this i downloaded the dataset - in this the pbix was downloded, in that pbix i made my changes and published back now it was replacing the older report.

The file names are the same. There is no suffix.

@New_Folder ,

Hi,

It will happen when report name is different.

ex. You have a report in service called "Monthly Management Report" when you download pbix file to your computer if there is a pbix file name with "Monthly Management Report" in your download folder then new downloaded file name will be "Monthly Management Report(1)". Then you will open "Monthly Management Report(1)" and publish. When you publish it checks is there another report and dataset with same name in workspace. There is no report called "Monthly Management Report(1)" in your workspace. So it will create a new report and data set.
Solution is once you download the pbix file check the name. If it is different change it name as the report in service.

Thank you.
