Dont see First, Last, Count (Distinct), Count etc... on Columns dropdown

Hi,

Can't figure out why I can't see the First, Last, Count (Distinct), Count etc... when I go to Visulaizations/Columns/Country dropdown?

I know that for Measures you dont see these options but Country is text.
I am using latest version of Power BI Version: 2.138.1203.0 64-bit (November 2024)

Is there a setting I need to turn on to see these options?

Thanks!

Hi @Impromptu ,

Agree with @Irwan .
After testing, I can basically rule out the possibility that there is a problem with the version 2.138.1203.0 64-bit (November 2024) of Power BI Desktop. At the same time, I also checked the settings of the pbix, and they are all correct. I copied the data of the pbix and used it to recreate a new pbix, and it was also normal.

I personally feel that there is something wrong with this pbix. I suggest that you try to contact the author of this pbix and ask him if he has performed some operations or settings that may cause this problem.
It is also possible that this pbix was created a long time ago and used a very old version of Power BI Desktop, which is incompatible with the latest or most recent version of Power BI Desktop. However, I have no idea what version the pbix was created with, so I have no way to verify it.

My suggestion is that you can copy the data and then use it to recreate a pbix yourself for your testing.

Best Regards,
Dino Tao

Hi, I'm not sure if you've already found a solution but it's likely the dataset you downloaded either contains calculation groups or was configured to discourage implicit measures. This causes the behavior you're experiencing. More here at the beginning of article: Calculation Groups

its the same when I bring in other columns like "Name".
I got the pbix from one of Marc Russo's post:

hello @Impromptu

have you tried in new pbix?

Irwan_0-1733528266463.png

i can see First, Last, Count (Distinct), and Count.

still data category is still uncategorized, and text format.

Thank you.

Thanks @Anonymous  and @Irwan ,

thanks for getting back.  I tried to copy the data to new pbix, but I don't have sql server so can't test as its asking for credentials.  I will take your word that you can see First, Last, Count etc...   Just wanted to make sure that I wasn't the only one not seeing these options.

@Impromptu IN your screen shot, data category is set as "Uncategorized". Try to set the data category as "Country" from here and then check the dropdown for First, Last, Count (Distinct), Count etc..
