Hi All,
I have a tool created in RShiny that needs to be migrated to Power BI desktop version. I am evaluating if this is feasible especially in the desktop version wihout premium edition. The Rshiny takes certain parameters as input from the end users and then runs code for Random forest, xgboost etc. in the backend to analyse the data.
Could someone help me understand if it is feasible to replicate something similar in Power BI? As per my initial reading, it seems like it's only feasible via AutoML
Thanks,
Swati
Hi @Anonymous ,
This depends on what your are trying to achieve in Power BI. Few questions:
Now the final thing depends on what kind of output you want Power BI to generate?
With my little knowledge on running modelling in R is - that the output of these predictive models is usually a score with some additional visuals.
Do add details as it's not clear about how much and what you want to achieve in Power BI.

Hi Pragati,
I am trying to achive the following:
- Move all the visuals to Power BI - this is doable as I just have basic charts and tables
- Move all the predictive modelling and simulations to Power BI, This includes all the scoring, feature importance, positive and negative slopes etc.
Check out the April 2026 Power BI update to learn about new features.
