Do users I share reports with have to have Power BI installed?

I shared a report with a team member yesterday (its my first one) and they got the alert, and then got the message below when trying to view the report.  I was assuming they wouldnt need to do this, or does that only work if its a report on a Power BI Server instance?  I may have just answered my own question...

hi @JediMole ,

yes, your colleague need a paid pro license, or either:

1. you send them pbix files and they open it with Power BI desktop app.

2. or you have a premium capacity.

Premium is an organizational subscription that provides a way to store content in a virtual container called a Power BI Premium capacity. With Premium capacity, anyone granted permissions, whether they're inside or outside your organization, can access content stored in this virtual container. This access includes users with free licenses.

Thanks for the follow up so quickly, I did more research and found that answer as well and asked internally where or space is.

That said, until I get the proper server location\space, how sould I export the results for my clients to use in their presentations?  Should a publish a dashboard for myself and grab the visuals that way to share with them?

hi @JediMole ,

you can publish it to web.

"When you use Publish to web, anyone on the Internet can view your published report or visual. Viewing requires no authentication. It includes viewing detail-level data that your reports aggregate. Before publishing a report, make sure it's okay for you to share the data and visualizations publicly. Don't publish confidential or proprietary information. If in doubt, check your organization's policies before publishing."
