Displaying External Ghost Tasks

Hello All,

I am importing my data from Project Online (PWA) into my BI reports. See image 1 for sample of my data from my project file. This is using data from the assignments table. The counts of tasks from the project file is for just the task in black. Also shown are externally linked (ghost) tasks in grey, highlighted in red. My questions are;

(1) How do I show the ghost tasks in my BI report? Mind you that since they are external tasks, I cannot manipulate them as they belong to another project file which I have no control over even if I choose to go the Flag route. Any ideas or feedback?

(2) Furthemore, if I want to color code the ghosts task, how can I color the tasks that are predecessors (blue) vs task that are successors (green)?

(3) If I can show the ghost tasks in my BI report, can I show the count of how many they are? Can I show a plot of how many over time or can I show how these are tracking just like the "Status column" I currently have?

Any insight and feedback will be greatly appreciated.

    amaoa Sorry, not clear. Are you saying that these ghost tasks show up in your project data pulled from PWA or no? If they do, is there anything that identifies them as ghost tasks?

    Honestly though, I don't even believe in ghosts...tasks...

      @ Greg_Deckler,

      These externally linked ("Ghost") tasks do not show up under the Assignments Table. They will only show up in the Task Table if they are marked as milestones in the project(first) file they originate from, hence show up as "ghost" milestones in the second file. But they are not all going to be milestones in either file and I want to be able to interrogate these "ghost" or externally linked tasks.

      I want to believe they are referred to as ghost because they are greyed out and one cannot change the attributes in the second file they show up in.

      Any help, insight and feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • Anybody with PWA/Project Online experience with PowerBI? I would appreciate any feedback or insight. Thanks all.

    I have a requirement along these lines. I have created a Power BI report that shows the name of the project and the name of external tasks and the count of how many times that external task appears in the project. External tasks can either be linking to, external predecessors, or linking from external successors, tasks in the project plan - I don't really care what type of link exists but I would like to be able to show the name of the project where the external task resides. In Microsoft Project the "Links Between Projects" dialog box elaborates on the information visible at the task level and does identify the "parent project" for external predecessor and successor dependencies but I am struggling to tease this out of the raw data obtained through ODATA connection.

      Anonymous Were you able to find out how to connect to the "Links between Projects" dialog box through Odata?
