Display full column name on hover

Hi All ,

We have a need to shorten the column names in a table visual , as it is too long from the source. However we need to display the original name (full size) on hover . Is it possible to achieve this ?

Thanks !

Hi @ramkula123 ,

You can achieve this through the following steps:

  1. Select the corresponding table visual
  2. Go to “Format” panel and turn off Word wrap option in the Column headers tab
  3. Adjust field width with long field names

Hello @ramkula123,

I would recommend to do other way aroung: keep the orignal column names (or whatever you want) and rename it in the table visual by double-clicking or click on the down arrow in the Table Visual properties:

This way you will retain your orignal column headers and can control your table visuals as well.

Thanks @vivran22 .

This would change the column name in the visual as well right ? I would like to show the full name to the user when they hover over it in the visual or any such type. We need to keep the short name in the visual coulmn header and display the full name when user hovers over it.

@ramkula123

When you rename the column header from the Value section of the table properties, it will only change what it will be displayed in the table visual.

And when you include that column in some other visual, complete name will be reflected in the tooltip. I hope this is what you are looking for.

Cheers!
