Disable - Log in Request - Personal Desktop MS Power BI

I have been using BI for over a month now without issue. Recently, an annoying pop up has occurred - requesting I sign in to my user account. I am not a student and this is my personal account - not business email. I have tried numerous "tips" on how to disable this request. I am basically frozen from working on my projects because this email request keeps popping up. Please is there anyone out there that can help. Details: Windows 11, PC, paid Microsoft Online Subscription. Version: MS Power BI Desktop version.

Hi @CTomk

Welcome to the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

If you are experiencing persistent login prompts in Microsoft Power BI Desktop while using a personal account on Windows 11 with a paid Microsoft Online subscription, this is often due to cached credentials or conflicts with the Windows Authentication Manager (WAM).

To address this, please clear any stored credentials by going to File > Options and Settings > Data Source Settings > Clear Permissions, as previously suggested by @Akash_Varuna

You may also consider disabling WAM authentication by adding a DWORD entry named UseWAM with a value of 0 in the Windows Registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop. This will switch Power BI Desktop to legacy authentication and can help resolve repeated login issues. Additionally, in Power BI Desktop, navigate to File > Options > Global > Security and uncheck Require user authentication for single sign-on to prevent unnecessary sign-in prompts. If the problem continues, performing a clean reinstallation of Power BI Desktop may help reset configuration and authentication settings.

To stop the Power BI sign-in prompt:

  1. Run as Administrator – Right-click Power BI > Run as administrator.

  2. Registry Fix
    Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop,
    create DWORD EnableSignIn = 0.

  3. Disable Auto Sign-In – In Power BI: File > Options > Security, turn off sign-in options.

This should stop the prompt.

Hi @CTomk It might be due to cached credentials or authentication settings. Clear cached credentials via File > Options and Settings > Data Source Settings. To stop prompts, uncheck "Require user authentication for single sign-on" under File > Options > Global > Security. If the issue persists, reinstall Power BI Desktop or contact Microsoft support for further assistance.
